Wendy Sloneker:
You are listening to Emergence from Life's Biggest Obstacles with Wendy slonaker. This is episode three. Hello, hello again, hey, I have something a little bit special. You all know, if you've been following me for a little while you know that there have been changes. Not only a foot, but a knee, a belly, an elbow, it's all happening. That's what's going on.
So obstacles are a part of my life and have been and probably will continue to be in. Moving through with some sort of grace and understanding toward clarity and toward keeping my own heart a little bit soft and warm. Is important to me, navigating the how, even when I don't know how. But by doing it, like I'll figure out how, after, I'll tell you how after. This is part of the deal, and this is also how I've come up with the stories and assets and modules and all the things and coaching and support. These are things I wish I had had.
And I want to introduce one to you today. It's very new, it came out 30 days ago, today is May 31. The time of this recording. This was a short book that was published on May 1. And it's called Somatic Stories, Showers for Your Soul. Now, when I wrote this book, I didn't really have it in mind as a read through I had it as a listen through. I'm big into audiobooks. And if you're listening to this podcast, chances are good you are interested if God open to audiobooks as well. This book was delivered to me as an experience with experience in mind. I'm delighted to share that this entire book will be an audio book, it is in production. Right now we've done all the recording through the month of May with Audiotocracy. Super shout out to Shannon and her team at Audiotocracy.
And I really wanted this episode to be especially early on an episode about what this option is podcasts are lovely, and they're informative. And their audio books are also wonderful with lots and lots of opportunities for all different kinds of medium. This one came to me a little bit different. This is an experiential book with eight different experiential stories, and more coming in. So I wanted to read today take this episode and introduce it to you say hey, how you doing. And then also just give you a sense of what it is I am not taking any of the files that I've recorded, and uploading them to this podcast.
No, I'm reading them. I'm reading the book, the introduction to you anyway, today. And so I'm glad you're here. I hope you enjoy it. This is a little bit about what the book is and how to experience it. And I hope you'll get it and try it on for yourself as well in the book or the written form that's available now but also the audio format, that's the one that there's a lot of juice there. So with that, I want to introduce you to somatic stories, showers for your soul, and PS, you can totally expect more audiobooks to come from me. Okay.
This is the dedication for all the feelings that have come to be felt and known. Their gifts are the absolute knowing of how precious life can be and is. May we be brave enough to learn to feel our feelings. May we more deeply more presently really live.
Introduction we need way more positive messages in order to operate from gentleness, compassion and openness. This book offers a quiet selection of specially phrased moments for your body, heart and yes your mind to imagination for emotional processing. One of the tools we use most often tries with all of its might to protect us. It's our beautiful, complex and hardworking human brains.
And we inadvertently end up using our imaginations in ways that make us smaller, not because we want to be smaller or have smaller lives, but because our brains crave comfort and the familiar emotional processing brings about expansion and the unfamiliar allowing and moving through our emotions yields clarity new wonder standings, new opportunities and even revelations that can catapult us by leaps and legs in our lives.
With clarity and less emotional weight burdening us down, we can renegotiate our circumstances, change our minds without shame or the dreaded feeling of failure, shift our approach so it's easier, more efficient, and even a pleasure. So using our imaginations for dreaming up, getting bigger, inviting more love in and playing more is how we can use this incredible gift of creation and problem solving, we can use it more often. And it just feels better and is more balanced.
Experiential images and visions offered in short chapters with specific vibes and tones. That's what this book offers. If you could consider this a kind of somatic entertainment, processing your emotions can be done when you imagine yourself in the role of the narrator. You may be conscious of which emotions are being processed, and you may not.
The point is energy can be released from your body, heart and being when you consume this material when you try it on. Why water and showers. Water and showers are featured throughout the whole book. And it's short, including the title. Why? Because there's a connection to realize and take in.
Water is often something that depicts the realm of emotion. Emotion resides in the domain of the body, not the mind. Plus quick reminder, our bodies are made of mostly water, we are practically and quite literally a body of water ourselves. We are full of emotion to but we haven't been taught to work with ourselves, to feel our ways through our emotions, our loves, hurts, triumphs devastations our lives.
So water, our bodies and emotion are deeply connected in symbols we can see in the media. But we can also honor these three in our biology as well. Have you heard the phrase, I get my best ideas in the shower? There's that it's a thing. Water is life? Yes. So let's work with it. In harmony with our imaginations in a way that will also rest our minds.
Brain Breaks. The mind and brain are excellent tools. And let's give them a wee break. Because we rely on them for a lot of different tasks, including some things that they cannot do. Like, quote, figure out heartbreak, process feelings or release emotional pain. These are the realms of the body in the heart, the body wisdom and gifts we have below our brains.
The mind and brain are problem solvers and threat assessors, a kind of motor that scans if you will, the heart and the body, and feelings are not problems. Feelings are a natural occurrence in the span of a well lived and well loved life. Yep, even the painful feelings, even the challenging feelings. We've been taught, directed and sometimes demanded to look outside of ourselves for answers, wisdom and problem solving.
And we've been encouraged to be afraid of our feelings, and to treat the challenging and painful emotions as problems to Saul. They aren't the fact that we've been encouraged this way it creates resistance in into our very selves and lives. I found this to be personally problematic for my own self, repeatedly hashtag out.
So when I began looking inside myself for wisdom and healing, to be honest, it was scary and I felt awkward and vulnerable. And there was a part of my brain that was continually shouting down this pool to go inside. It felt risky. And I was out of ideas. All of the outside solutions I had tried, including food, alcohol, exercise, over work, relationships of all kinds, new careers, new environments, and states in the US and more. They yielded some benefit, but we're limited to zip as far as the results category in regard to creating harmony with my physical, emotional and spiritual self.
It changed when when I became willing to normalize and be present with myself through my own experiences and emotions. Pain lifted away when I began to play with my imagination and began directing it toward gentleness, sweetness, innocence and openness. Those were my choices that I went for momentum and fun picked up. Self trust and self awareness splashed in without me really knowing it or recognizing it at first.
What I didn't notice early on was space, delight, new energy, and some peace. How to experience this book, give yourself a chance, slip out of the cape of judgment, untie the front and let the weight of self judgment concern, dread anticipation or anything that seems like contempt prior to investigation just fall.
This is how you'll open up and observe your feelings as they arise and pass through. No feeling is a wrong or a bad feeling. This can be a tough ask I know, especially since we're conditioned to notice and anticipate the quote good and quote bad. In sharp contrast.
Feelings are a language of signals, indicators, if you will. They don't have to mean anything. And they can be noticed and released. And this can be learned, launchpad, springboard or diving board. As you read through these stories, or listen through these stories, other images and new stories may come forward. I invite you to wander with those new imaginings, they carry wisdom for you and about you. Blend them with what's on the page or what you're hearing and capture your own visions and work with them gently. Ask what gifts they have for your own dear self.
More support. There is no shame in wanting needing or getting more support. This may be where more practice may be had to learn how to receive more and better. This is especially true for me right now, as well, you're not alone. Bonus here is to identify what actually feels like support and what doesn't. Notice what you're drawn to is that the stories you crave knowing your animal guides in the experiences, the optional nourishment elements, something else, the experiences or stories themselves are written in first person so you can take them all the way in the rest of the book is mostly not allow yourself to take in the experiences how you will take in the content, how you will, it'll be exactly just right.
So step in, get wet, read, feel and notice what gets washed away. This is one way through. And not the only way through that has been the introduction and how to experience Somatic Stories, Showers for Your Soul, more experiential listening will be coming forward. Heck, yes, it will, along with a nonfiction book toward the end of 2023.
Thank you for listening, I have another offer for you in the outro. These are all available as ways of support this time in life and the world can feel pretty gripping and scary. I know my my little hind end gets a little crunchy at times. And so their support available. This is something I've invested in.
