Breaking Out of Boredom: Simple Tip

9/16/2019

I just ate something new and spicy today.

Something I wouldn't normally try...
specifically, a kimchi quesadilla with a new friend down near the water taxi on Alki Beach.

Something new, nearly every day, is a good thing.
It doesn't have to be "big-stakes new"... just new for you.

It adds to your experience in life. It can also wake you up if you happen to be in a rut, or bored, or a bit depressed, or even...just ever-so-slightly unwilling.

See if you can coax yourself into some kind of safe, yet unknown, new experience.

The new things (the new experiences, really) make for all new material for you.
If all experience, good or bad, makes for material to be used later, then what can be new for you today?
That's what I like to live by. It helps me to re-frame (and move through) some of the unpleasant experiences as well. You may have heard me say, "this will be great material... later" or "this will be hilarious someday... not today". All to the good. All to useable experience.

And all material, when you think about it, may be used in marketing, connecting, or sharing in business or in better communication in your personal affairs. Or, yes, both.

So, what's new?
What CAN be new?
Low-stakes new?

Like, no-cost new too... just for today.

Below are a few ideas to start with... I'm sure you will come up with more.

1. Explore a new street, or drive/ride/walk-thru an unfamiliar neighborhood.

2. Take photos with a new filter or camera app.

4. Pick up, try, and share a new fruit or food you've never tried before

5. Look out a window you've never looked out of before.

6. Lookup a new word in the dictionary, or find a synonym for a current favorite term.

One silly example
I was in Las Vegas YEARS ago and the friend I went with was determined to sit in every lobby and community space chair in the hotel during our stay. Even the elevator bay chairs on every floor, all of the lounge chairs by the pools (yes, more than 1 pool!)... I was annoyed with her... but it fit the bill to try something new. She sat in every seat to see what she could see.

If you're expecting to find something new or different, I'm sure you will.
You'll be on the lookout, awake, alert, and will likely spot a few other new things as well.

More material = more life well lived. Go get it.
